The Indian gospel of Jesus Christ summarized by Notovitch
By Rama Rao
Long before Jesus was born, India had become a familiar place in the Middle East because of the trade, and also missionary work of Buddhists beyond the Indian subcontinent. Buddhism had strong roots throughout India including Afghanistan and also parts of Egypt and Israel. Buddha ended his physical existence in 543 B.C. and Mahavira of Jainism in 526 B.C. The influence of Buddhist and Hindu teachings in Indian subcontinent was significant at the time of Jesus.

Canonical Gospels record the history of Jesus until he was 12 and then start again at the age of 30, but the intervening 18 years of his youth is unaccounted for. There is only one reference to Jesus' whereabouts; Luke 2.52 says; "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." This doesn't really say where he increased his wisdom and knowledge to preach the glory of God. In this book the author Notovitch gives a summary of his findings from the manuscripts he found at a Buddhist monastery in Ladakh. In his original work in French, Notovitch gives a minute by minute description of his journey to Tibet in 1887. The manuscript discovered by him at the Himis monastery near Leh, the capital of Ladakh gave an account of Jesus, referred to as St. Issa. These manuscripts were brought from India to Tibet via Nepal. The original was written in Pali, the language of Buddhists. This was translated into Tibetan language by the Buddhist Lamas. St. Issa's doctrine is not canonized in Buddhism and hence not read by ordinary Buddhists, except for Lamas.

Notovitch summarizes his findings about Jesus (St. Issa) in 14 chapters. Jesus travels to India with a caravan of merchants to study and understand the Vedic and Buddhist teachings (Chapter 4, verses 12-13). His trip leads him to Jagannath, located in the modern state of Orissa where Hindu priests receive him with open arms and teach him Sanskrit language and Vedas (chapter 5, verses 3-4). Having studied Hinduism and Buddhism for six years, Jesus was deeply influenced by Buddha's teachings. He travels extensively in Northern India to spread the holy doctrine (chapter 5, verses 3-4). Jesus preaches against unfair treatment of shudras and vaishyas. His teachings focus on the equality of all men, irrespective of their wealth or physical strength or the caste. He works for the emancipation of the poor and downtrodden (chapter 5, verses 11, and 22-27.) He preaches in Jagannath, Rajagriha, Benares and other holy cities of Hinduism and Buddhism (chapter 5, verse 5). When Jesus is about 28 years old, he heads back to his homeland to preach the glory of God, passing through many countries; Afghanistan, Persia and many Middle Eastern countries, before arriving in Israel. Many people were deeply touched by his humility and his message and they become his followers.

Chapter 1 start with the Indian traders who had witnessed the execution of Jesus by the soldiers of Governor Pilate (chapter 1, verses 1-5, and chapter 14, verses 1-5,) and the efforts of Pilate to prosecute Jesus (chapter 10, verses 3-21 and chapter 11.)

Notovitch studied and summarized his findings in 1889, and later in 1929, Swami Abhedananda of the Ramakrishna Order (Vedanta Society) reviewed and verified the authenticity of the apocrypha by personally studying them at Himis monastery. Later Nicholas Roerich and Elisabeth Caspari confirmed the existence of these documents during their visits to the Buddhist monastery at Himis

The translation into English from the original French has been beautifully rendered, and the work of Notovitch is highly illuminating and explains the whereabouts of Jesus in his adolescent years. There are a number of books in literature that discusses the parallels in the acts and sayings of Jesus with that of Buddha. The summary of Notovitch reads like a lost gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. The Fifth Gospel: New Evidence from the Tibetan, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian and Urdu Sources About the Historical Life of Jesus Christ After the Crucifixion
2. The Lost Years of Jesus: Documentary Evidence of Jesus' 17-Year Journey to the East
3. Jesus in Kashmir: The Lost Tomb
4. Jesus and Buddha: The Parallel Sayings
5. Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, and Lao Tzu: The Parallel Sayings
6. The Original Jesus: The Buddhist Sources of Christianity

Irony; or, The Self-Critical Opacity of Postmodern Architecture, by Emmanuel J. Petit

In this fascinating reassessment of postmodern architecture at the end of the20th century, Emmanuel Petit addresses the role of irony and finds a vitality and depth of dialectics largely ignored by historical critiques. A look at five individual architects—Peter Eisenman (b. 1932), Arata Isozaki (b. 1931), Rem Koolhaas (b. 1944), Stanley Tigerman (b. 1930), and Robert Venturi (b. 1925)—reveals the beginning of a phenomenology of irony in architecture. As Petit explains, irony is manifested in the work of these architects as an aesthetic tool, as existential comedy, and as cultural satire.

Petit frames his discussion between the destruction of two utopian structures by architect Minoru Yamasaki (1912–1986): the demolition of the Pruitt-Igoe housing complex in St. Louis in 1972 and the collapse of the World Trade Center in 2001. Meticulously researched and drawing widely from philosophy and literary criticism, Petit crafts a compelling case for the role of irony during a period when architects struggled to come to terms with significant contradictions within cultural modernity.

#TheSteelBrothers
By Cindy M. Green
Burn is Book #5 in The Steel Brothers Saga. I would recommend reading the books in order; Craving, Obsession, Possession, Melt and then Burn. The first three books in the series follow Jade and Talon, while Melt starts the relationship between Jonah, the oldest brother, and Melanie who is Jonah and Talon's Therapist. Burn continues with Jonah and Melanie's story.

Melanie and Jonah continue to feel drawn to one another, spending more time together at his house. Melanie finds herself in an embarrassing situation while at at Jonah's house and decides to leave without being noticed. Jonah is extremely angry at Melanie once he realizes what she did. Because of hurt feelings, Jonah doesn't answer a telephone call from Melanie; a decision he will continue to regret.

Some answers we've been looking for are revealed; while more questions keep us trying to figure out the mystery that is the Steel family. Jonah will do anything to protect the ones he loves, and that now includes Melanie. Due to certain situations, Melanie gains some clarity and starts to question her role in a patients recovery. Could the struggles that Melanie has faced with that patient somehow be tied to the Steel family?!? Jonah will stop at nothing to find answers that will help them all.

The cliffhangers are awesome and this series is worth the investment. If you like a hot, steamy romance with mystery and a suspenseful “who done it” that keeps you wanting more, don't miss out! Helen does not disappoint!

I thought I might be a bit lost when Burn was released because it was a while since I read book #4, but I was wrong. It wasn’t long before my memories of events and the characters came flooding back, proving that the Steel Brothers are memorable.
While I was reading Burn, I found it very hard to put it down. People and things kept interrupting me as I tried to find out what happens next in this series. Yes, I loved this book just as much as I loved the first four books and even though I want all the ends to be tied up, I also don’t want this series to finish.
A Word of Warning: Burn ends on a cliff hanger, but this book was well worth the pain. BTW, I bought every one of these books.
I gave Burn 5 sizzling stars.

Jonah and Melanie
By Sherma J. Lee
OMG!!!!! I am left speechless on this one. I totally enjoyed this book. the characters a re made for each other. After Melanie 's kidnapping and her not being able to get anyone on the phone I really thought she was a goner, but to my surprise she used her head to get out of the situation with one focus, to tell Jonah she loves him. My girl waited patiently and did escape. 10 points for survival skills.

Jonah wow that man is oh gorgeous. Very Dominant but when he heard from Melanie he dropped everything and ran to her in the hospital. He took her home with him and vowed to find her kidnappers along with finding Talon's as well. The chemistry between the two of them is insanely HOT.

The story goes on to unfold some other mysterys and that's when things really get interesting. Everything is leading up to the same kidnappers in both cases. I can go on about the book but I need you to buy it and read it yourself. The entire series does not disappoint. Totally in love with this series. The cliff hanger, WOW it's a dozzer.

The Elements of Scrum, by Chris Sims, Hillary Louise Johnson

“A wonderful metaphor for what it conveys about Scrum, that Scrum makes software development a joy…. Any organization embarking on Scrum should hand this book out to all stakeholders.” Jim Downey

“A must read…. The book takes you inside a Scrum team’s inner workings, including planning and executing a sprint, daily scrum (stand-up) meetings, sprint reviews, and the retrospective…. If you are looking for one book that provides a solid foundation for understanding Agile development and Scrum, including an “inside look” at how Scrum teams plan and operate, I highly recommend The Elements of Scrum.” Dave Moran, Software Results

The Elements of Scrum has gained an international following and a reputation for being perhaps the only book on software development that reads like a page-turner. Written by Chris Sims, a top scrum trainer and pioneer of experiential learning, and Hillary Louise Johnson, a novelist and business journalist, it demonstrates the principles, practices and pitfalls of the scrum framework through lively storytelling and vividly told example.

The Elements of Scrum opens with a blow-by-blow description of a week in the life of a scrum team, then briefly details the history and origins of scrum, comparing it to traditional methodologies and providing context for how scrum applies to the cultural history of the software industry. Next, the principles and practices set forth in the Agile Manifesto are broken down and illustrated with real-world examples, putting the reader inside the heads of the founders of scrum and agile for a thorough grounding in theory.

The meat of the book explains every aspect of the scrum process, including team composition, scheduling and work flow management, in crisp, clear, example-laden prose designed to provide insight to novices and experienced practitioners alike.

The book concludes with a section on supporting technical practices like Test Driven Development and Pair Programming, to help the reader apply scrum at the practical level.

The Elements of Scrum is taught at colleges and universities across the country, including UCLA, George Mason University, Arizona State, SUNY Potsdam, Wofford College, and Becker College. It has been translated into Mandarin, and is soon to appear in other international editions.

Easy to read, long on information
By Joel
EoS is a great mix of approachable writing, great anecdotes and simple pictures, both the ones drawn into the book and the pictures the words easily formed in my head. The nearly 200 pages flew by quickly while giving me some excellent new perspectives on the use of Scrum. For readability I found it outstanding.

Elements is not a complete "how to" book of Scrum, that's not the goal of the book. It's laid out a lot like a training cours, and will give any reader a strong foundation in the basics of Scrum. Even though I've taken scrum master certification and have been an active agilest for some time now, I still came away from this book with a deeper knowledge of Scrum's core fundamentals. That says a lot for a $30 book, that it can still teach you some new ideas after taking a two day training class.

The final positive point I can give it is where it will live, now that I've read it. EoS will find a place on my ready reference shelf in my office cube. When I need to check something on Scrum, it's only an arms length away and finding information in it is google easy.

Surprisingly good
By Tom L. Pittman
This is the second book I've "borrowed" from the Amazon Kindle loaning library, and it will be the second book I'll be buying -- just as soon as I can figure out if I want it in paper or digital format.

PROS:

o The book wisely starts off by telling a week in the life of a scrum team. I say wisely, because anyone with any software development experience at all will immediately get a clear, "bird's eye view" of the overall scrum framework from this opening story, and that perspective will make the reading of the rest of the book go quickly.

o Next the book reviews the traditional "Waterfall" development cycle which is another smart move. Not only does reading about the methodology I learned in college help establish the authors' credibility for me, they explain waterfall with a sense of fairness -- so you don't walk away feeling like you are about to read the one-sided propaganda of some agile fan-boys.

o As the book unfolds, you get the sense that the authors definitely have a ton of real world experience, and that you are getting something much more useful than scrum theory.

o The book is logically organized, making learning scrum a breeze.

o The authors didn't seem to be worried about page count, but instead taught scrum efficiently and effectively without extra words, war stories or fluff.

o The authors allow some personality to flow on to the pages, making the book a fun read.

CONS:

o I wish the authors would have done a bit more to define scrum-specific terminology at the beginning of the book, or at least provided a glossary at the back of the book so we could look up the terms as we come upon them -- particularly if we are coming upon them again and again.

o Not all the formatting looks right on the kindle. None of it is bad, just off at times.

o The pictures are so tiny on the kindle, that some are borderline unusable.

Now that I've written this review, I think I'll buy this in kindle format so that the highlighting I did as I read the book (yes, I knew it was a "borrowed" book, but I just couldn't resist) will transfer to my purchased copy.

I can see me wanting to refer back to this book again and again, and it will just be handy to have access to the book and my markings from my Android phone, iPad, Kindle Fire -- whichever gadget happens to be handy when I need to look something up.

An Excellent Look at the Inner Workings of Scrum
By Dave Moran
If you want to understand the essentials of Agile development and Scrum, The Elements of Scrum by Chris Sims and Hillary Louise Johnson is a must read. The book itself doesn't talk about Agile development in pure theoretical terms, it provides insight on how Scrum teams function by using examples and clear explanations.

The Elements of Scrum walks you through a Scrum team's inner workings, including planning and executing a sprint, daily scrum (stand-up) meetings, sprint reviews, and the retrospective. The book provides in-depth coverage of key Scrum artifacts such as the product and sprint backlogs, information radiators like the sprint and release charts, the task board, the definition of done, user stories and acceptance criteria. Chris and Hillary even cover a topic you don't read much about: terminating a sprint.

The Elements of Scrum really shines as it walks you through the ins and outs of estimating and planning. I particularly enjoyed the example of "Agile Islands," as it provides an excellent basis for understanding Scrum's use of relative sizing versus time estimates. Chris and Hillary explain why relative sizing works, pointing out that, "While we are bad at absolute sizing, we are good at relative sizing."

They follow up to explain how relative sizing is applied:

"The trick is to use a two-step process. First, assign relative sizes to all of the work items. The size indicates how much work there is to do. Second, do a couple of work items and measure how long they actually take. Armed with this measured amount, the relative sizes assigned to all of the other items can now be used to provide the desired predictability of schedule."

And if you've ever wondered why Agile development uses sizing numbers in the Fibonacci sequence, The Elements of Scrum explains this as well: "...the Fibonacci sequence, when used to represent `sizes,' increase at about the same rate at which humans are able to easily perceive differences. Just as anyone can tell a one-story house from a two-story house at a glance, anyone can tell 21 story building from a 34 story building."

Since the book relies on examples of actual experiences to illustrate how Scrum works in practice, it naturally gives an inside look at The Team Estimation Game and using techniques such as planning poker. The book closes discussing a variety of supporting practices, such as release planning, the use of personas, story mapping, refactoring, pair programming and test-driven development.

If you are looking for a book that provides an "inside look" at how Scrum teams plan and operate, I highly recommend The Elements of Scrum .

Nature, man, and woman (A Mentor book), by Alan Watts

In Nature, Man and Woman, philosopher Alan Watts reexamines humanity’s place in the natural world—and the relation between body and spirit—in the light of Chinese Taoism. Western thought and culture have coalesced around a series of constructed ideas—that human beings stand separate from a nature that must be controlled; that the mind is somehow superior to the body; that all sexuality entails a seduction—that in some way underlie our exploitation of the earth, our distrust of emotion, and our loneliness and reluctance to love. Here, Watts fundamentally challenges these assumptions, drawing on the precepts of Taoism to present an alternative vision of man and the universe—one in which the distinctions between self and other, spirit and matter give way to a more holistic way of seeing.

From the Inside Flap
A provocative and enduring work that reexamines humanity's place in the natural world -- and the spirit's relation to the flesh -- in the light of Chinese Taoism.
That human beings stand separate from a nature that must be controlled, that the mind is somehow superior to the body, and that all sexuality entails a seduction -- a danger and a problem-are all assumptions upon which much of Western thought and culture is based. And all of them in some way underlie our exploitation of the earth, our distrust of emotion, and our loneliness and reluctance to love.
Few books have challenged those assumptions as directly as this erudite and engaging work by the author of The Way of Zen. Drawing on the precepts of Taoism, Alan Watts offers an alternative vision of man and the universe -- one in which the distinctions between self and other, spirit and matter give way to a more holistic way of seeing. Nature, Man and Woman is a book of great elegance and far-reaching implication -- one of those rare texts that can change the way we think, feel, and love.

A must read…
By Manic The Doodler
Alan Watts is one of the most profound thinkers of the 20th century, in my opinion. I've read many of his books over the years & with the advent of the Internet & specifically YouTube listened to the many recorded lectures & talks he gave over the years. This is one of his best books I think. He makes esoteric topics like mysticism & eastern religions somewhat understandable for the western mind & this book is no exception. Highly recommended.

One of his best!
By Gabe
One does not complete this book. This book serves as a constant reference to not only spiritually, but just generally for life's ills and triumphs. Watts exemplifies his ability to engage the reader so directly in easy to understand language and conceptually simple examples, while still being broad enough to suggest his wisdom for the majority of one's spiritual, emotional and cognitive queries.

Amazon.com Review
From Emma Bull's War for the Oaks to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, from The X-Files to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, creators are mixing old European myths and legends with modern American pop culture. Incorporating influences ranging from blaxploitation movies and erotic novels to tabloid staples like UFOs and Elvis, authors and directors are creating a new mythology for the strip-mall, tract-house, cell-phone America of the new millennium.

One of the best-known and best writers of the new American mythology is Charlaine Harris. Dead to the World is the fourth novel in her Anthony Award-winning Southern Vampire series. It continues the story of psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, who has fallen out with her undead lover, Bill. Bill has no sooner departed for Peru, than Sookie finds the head vampire, Eric, running naked and terrified through the rural night. She helps Eric, and discovers his memory has been destroyed by a coven of unscrupulous, astonishingly powerful witches, newly arrived in her small Louisiana town, and offering a huge reward for Eric. Sookie tries to hide Eric, but her brother sees him--and immediately disappears. And Sookie finds herself caught in a war among witches, vampires, and werewolves. --Cynthia Ward

From Publishers Weekly
Fans of Laurell Hamilton's Anita Blake looking for a lighter version of the vampire huntress should cotton to Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic Louisiana gal who really wants to be normal, but suffers from a huge self-confidence problem, a case of permanent bad luck, difficult relatives and a penchant for attracting unsavory characters of the not-quite-human kind. In this fourth quirky installment in this hitherto mass-market series (after 2003's Club Dead), Sookie finds that her bad luck has taken a new turn for the worse. Sookie's love interest, Bill the vampire, runs off to Peru to do research. In his place, Sookie is stuck with Eric, Bill's boss (and head vamp for the district), who appears out of thin air buck naked with no memory of who he is or what he does. Coincidentally, Sookie's brother Jason goes missing. Less coincidentally, but more ominously, a coven of witches (who also happen to be shape-shifters and vampire blood addicts) comes rolling into the nearest big city, looking for trouble. Consistent, well-built characters and a strong, action-packed plot that will keep readers guessing to the end distinguish this frothy fusion of romance, mystery and fantasy.

From Booklist
Sookie Stackhouse has broken up with Bill, her vampire lover, after he cheated with the vampire who initiated him, but being telepathic, she can't seem to get away from the supernatural. Driving home from work one day, she comes across Bill's sexy boss, Eric, half naked and on the run. When she approaches him, he doesn't remember her or even who he is. She gets him to come back to her house, and a call to his second-in-command, Pam, reveals that Hallow, a witch whose advances Eric spurned, robbed him of his memory. Still hoping to get her hands on him, Hallow is posting signs with his picture on them all over town, so Pam is determined that Eric stay put at Sookie's. Sookie is apprehensive about that, especially after her brother disappears, and she comes to suspect that the coven Hallow runs is responsible. But as her attraction to Eric deepens, Sookie finds she is drawn into the vampires' plot to attack Hallow's coven. The first hardcover in Harris' series is gripping and spicy. Kristine Huntley

Love it.... 100%!!!! The best one so far....
By Crystal Rose
Oh my this book was awesome. I like Bill, but this book made me look at Eric a whole new way. I already can't wait to read the next installment. Sookie really just wants to be "normal". She seems real tired of all the drama that is within her life. She fines out that Bill is going to Peru to do more research for his vampire catalog, and while driving home from work she find Eric running through the woods "lost". She stops to help me and realizes that he has no memory of anything. Pam and Chow find Sookie and Eric and they decide that Eric will stay hidden with Sookie since Witches are looking for him. As Eric is staying with Sookie... he is kinder, sweeter, gentler that ever before. Sookie starts to realize that she likes this side of Eric. It is not long before Sookie and Eric are intimate, which Harris wrote beautiful I might add! Sookie even though is loving being with the nicer Eric and distraught because Jason is missing. No one knows were he is, and everything is trying to help Sookie find him with no avail. Sookie and the Vampire crew decide that they need to go after the Witches and the rest of there clan. The Vampires actually teamed up with the Weres, Wiccans, and the Shifters from Hotshots (these guys are an incest clan of Weres that you later in the book find out are were-panthers) The fight between the Witches and the Vamp, Weres, Shifter and Wiccans was pretty great. Alcide basically banished Debbie from him which was AWESOME, but the is a not a big surprise (awesome but not a big surprise) at the end for about Debbie!! We also meet a Fairy for a short while, she was kind of cool (hopefully she will be in the books again??) The fairy seems to have some type of beauty that the Vampires can't seems to turn away from. As soon as they saw her they wanted to her, though she didn`t want anything to so with them. That was interesting!! Jason is found with the help of the leader were-panther. I can't wait to read more about Jason transformation in the next book. All in all Eric does get his memory back and remembers nothing of the time and caring between himself and Sookie. I really hope that he will sooner or later, because it brought out such a beauty between Erin and Sookie. This book was so great because of those two characters.

I have always like Bill and most likely I will keep likely Bill, but Eric other side was wonderful (Don`t get me wrong, his "bad side" was awesome too but WOW he was fantastic here). Maybe you can think about it as Eric truer side, loving side was revealed in this book. Maybe, maybe not... I don't know but I must keep reading these books and I hope you do too!!

Dual Natured Eric & Sookie Make Sparks Fly!
By Jana L.Perskie
Sookie Stackhouse, the attractive, telepathic barmaid from Bon Temps, LA, makes her fourth appearance in "Dead To The World," which I think is the best book in the series, so far. Boyfriend Bill, a Civil War veteran and vampire, is pretty much out of the picture here. He has been sent to Peru, by the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, to continue his research for the extensive vampire data base he is building. Sookie has ambivalent feelings about her old beau. He has proved to have a cheatin' heart, along with other unfaithful body parts. This is unfortunate because Sookie thought she had found the man of her dreams. However, there seems to be an abundance of other men, all preternatural, who are very interested in getting to know our Sookie better. And it is best for her to stick with the superhumans. She can't read their minds, and doesn't need to worry about keeping their inner voices at bay.

Driving home from work early New Year's morning, (there was a huge party at Merlotte's Bar), Sookie sees a half-naked, shoeless man running down the road. When she stops to help the poor guy, she realizes it is Eric, charismatic owner of Club Fangtasia, and vampire Sheriff of Area 5, which encompasses Shreveport and Bon Temps. It appears that Eric has amnesia, and remembers nothing about his life except that he is a vampire. He doesn't even know why he is running, or where. He is only aware of his terror - a very strange state for the strong, confident warrior he has always been. We learn later from Eric's cohorts that a coven of powerful witches, who use their magic for dark purposes, are attempting to take control of all the supernaturals in Area 5 - vampires, werewolves, shifters, etc.. When Eric refused to cooperate with them, they cast a spell taking away his memory. Sookie brings Eric home to care for him, through sheer kindness. Her brother Jason interferes with her altruism, however, when Eric's second in command visits to figure out an emergency course of action. Eric must remain in hiding and Jason negotiates a whopping $35,000. babysitting fee for his sister. Sookie finds that Eric is no longer the suave, scary, business-first, head-honcho vampire that she had been accustomed to. He is now tender, sincere, attentive, romantic, protective of her and grateful for her loyalty and decency. Our heroine doesn't know what to make of this drastic change, until sparks begin to fly between the two. She then decides to go with the flow. After all, Bill has been gone a long time.

"Dead To The World's" pace is fast and the action is nonstop throughout. Jason goes missing, the evil witches are on the loose, Alcide Herveaux, the hunky werewolf (from "Club Dead"), and his pack become involved in what is to be a major battle between the forces of good and evil, new characters are introduced, and much more. Per usual Charlaine Harris fills her well written narrative with humor, suspense, and thrilling plot twists and turns. The finale is outrageously good! Terrific escapist reading. I couldn't put the novel down.

Exciting
By A Customer
The premise of this series is that vampires have "come out" to the world at large, become legal citizens in many countries, and their effect of living in a small community in the American South. The main character is Sookie Stackhouse, who works as a barmaid and who happens to be telepathic. I won't go over the plot except to say that you can read about it from the PW or Booklist descriptions above.
I loved this book. It's very exciting, tension filled-a real page turner. I've been a fan from the beginning, and I think this may be my favorite in the series so far. Sookie is still her wonderful self, the plotting is fantastic, and I loved the little bits of information planted here and there about certain characters. (There is a certain duo I am really rooting for, conventions be damned!) I liked Bill very much in the first book, but after #2 and #3, I was ready to see Sookie move on. I found the Eric storyline in this book to be charming, and I am glad to see that Sookie herself seems to have seen it as nothing more than a temporary comfort. Having the field wide open at this point leaves many interesting possibilities for the future! And here's hoping none of them get poor Sookie beaten up again.
The only thing that gives me pause is the inevitable comparison to Laurell K. Hamilton. I have bristled at the Anita Blake comparisons since the first Sookie book came out, but even I will admit it may be getting a bit too close for comfort with the introduction of certain characters and plot devices. I've read all the Anita Blakes but the last two, as I just got bored with the lack of plot while Anita becomes ever more tiresome. With that in mind, I must admit that I laughed out loud when Sookie asks Alcide if one becomes a werewolf packmaster by fighting for the title and he replies that no, one gets elected.
