Vegan diet is the way to go

Malik Hazima tells us of his own experience in eating a conventional unhealthy diet that unfortunately a lot of folks are on. He tells about is parents who died early and his grandparents who rarely consumed meat who lived into the 80s and 90s. Whenever Malik ate right, avoiding foods of animal origin, his health improved. He immediately lost weight, diabetes symptoms went away as did high blood pressure. He got off his vegetarian diet and medical problems gradually started to reappear. As a vegan he's even more health, planning to live to 100. As for the recipe part of the book, I like how he included Ingredients, Preparation and Nutritional Values with each recipe.

I am very pleased with this book

This is a marvelous book. I will admit I am not a vegan, but I am always looking for ways to add more vegetables to my diet. The recipes don't call for anything exotic, and most of them sound tasty when I read them, though I'm sure I'll be adding a lot more garlic. The instructions are clear and simple, so even the most basic cook should be able to make most of the recipes with minimal equipment.

There are a few translation issues, and the book does need a bit of editing. But that is NOT affecting my review, and in fact if the author and translator would like, I would freely offer my services to clean it up a bit.

Excellent for anyone who wants to cook in a more healthy, and honestly, frugal manner, and you don't have to be a vegan to enjoy the recipes.

Vegan easy and healthy

As a vegetarian for the past 30 years, I have gradually been cutting out all animal products. I love heavily spiced foods as well. I have already tried one of the recipes and am thrilled with the results. This book will stay at the top of my list for healthy, vegan and delicious meals. Healthy, vegan food does NOT have to taste like cardboard. Highly recommended!

This is my all time favorite manga. I'm so glad it's coming out in English. This manga is dark, gross, depressing, and depicts a world with just miserable characters everywhere you turn. The majority of characters are depicted as just all around horrible people. I love it. The ending is amazing, it impacted me in a different way then other mangas, tv shows, movies and books do. I highly encourage anyone who reads this, to read it all the way till the end.

In the 3rd and 4th volumes of Goodnight Punpun, more backstory unfolds about side characters, and the scope is expanded, not to a harmful extent, but rather a closer look on personalities and human nature. The artwork is beautiful, and the writing is strong. It is incredibly dark, and depressing. There is a level of maturity, like the first perhaps not expected by the cover. This is a coming of age story at its most gripping, and very enjoyable.

    this is one of the better ortho books out there for FP

    It's the bible of Ortho in our FP office. I gave the 4th edition to the wife and I used that one a lot. Have not had a chance to look through this enough yet to know if there were a lot of changes, but either way, this is one of the better ortho books out there for FP.

    Excellent resource to letting go of clutter.

    This is also a good Feng Shui. I'm new to this practice and I think this book did a great job with tackling the clutter. I am a paper hoarder, always hanging onto documents and pages I rip from magazines. It piles up quickly. This book really helped me break away from my inner paper hoarding habits. Feng Shui really does work. When you let go of finished projects and clutter, you open yourself up to new, more exciting projects. Very easy to read and understand. And I think it did a tremendous job explaining why people hold onto stuff. It was also sensitively written which i thought was really nice of the author to be empathetic to people who hang onto items.

    I use it extensively. Has it really changed my life? I don't know. It could be placebo effect. But I think it has helped me be more aware of my surroundings and allowed me to turn my home & work into a sanctuary. It has definitely helped reinforce the positivity into my living & working space. If you are looking for Feng Shui book without wanting to get into complex calculations etc. this book is a must have! I have tried some of the others & none of them break it down so well as this one. As a result of it, I am a convert!

    A great introduction and companion, but use wisely

    The Portable Faulkner is a wonderful intro to Faulkner, but it's just that--an introduction. It can't do whan the entirety of one of Faulkner's novels will do, and in some cases I recommend skipping a bit in the Portable Faulkner until the corresponding novel has already been read (for example, Dilsey's section of The Sound and the Fury shouldn't be read in the Portable if you haven't read The Sound and the Fury. Trust me, TSatF is a book where you don't want to read the last chapter before the first three).
    Better than an introduction, the Portable Faulkner also serves as a very interesting companion to those already familiar with Faulkner--it does the great service to readers of putting Yoknapatawpha stories in chronological order, which is an interesting perspective we may not otherwise get to see.
    However, above all, there are two reasons why I bought this book.
    First, it includes the Compson Appendix. If you've read a copy of the Sound and the Fury that didn't include the Compson Appendix, you need this. It's something that has to be read after the Sound and the Fury to capture the whole of Faulkner's story.
    Second, it includes Faulkner's Nobel acceptance speech, which is wonderful, especially as a complement to reading the books themselves, and which is very nice to have in book format like the Portable Faulkner.

    A terrific introduction to Faulkner

    The Portable Faulkner is THE way to be introduced to William Faulkner, arguably the best of 20th century American novelists. Cowley arranges whole work and excerpts chronological for Faulkner's Yoknapatawpha County; it should be noted that Faulkner did not write his body of work chronologically. By arranging the work in this way, Cowley does us a great service in seeing Faulkner's great creation as an ordered whole.
    The drawback to this work is in its goal -- to make more understandable Faulkner's creation in his mythic county. The drawback is that, by design, none of Faulkner's other work is included, such as The Fable.
    The Portable Faulkner should be viewed only as an introduction, a tantalizer. Upon seeing the greatest of the work, we can then proceed to the work in its entirety.

    Edges out short stories anthology

    An influential collection, partly responsible for the late 1940s resurgence of interest in America's greatest author, this construction of Faulkner's narrative world is certainly no substitute for any of the novels. But it has its uses: readers who don't plan to read more than 3 of Faulkner's best novels may find some of Cowley's excerpts a reasonable consolation; Cowley's chronological ordering not only clarifies Faulkner's fictional world but exposes its organic unity; with the exception of "Barn Burning," most of the essential short fiction (including the frequently excerpted "The Bear") can be found here; the concluding commentary and genealogy which Cowley elicted from Faulkner himself is both helpful and a kind of Faulknerian literary piece in its own right.
    A slight "down side" (apart from some questionable excerpting and over-emphasis on chronological at the expense of "narrative" time) is Cowley's somewhat "dated" aesthetic judgements (though at times refreshing, since the author was applying them to a "non-canonical" writer).
    As for "Burn Burning," it's readily available, free of charge, on the Internet.

    Works Miraculously For Illnesses Other Than Borderline Personality Disorder

    Without any exaggerations intended, this book has seriously saved my life and me from myself. I am 23 years old and ever since I was between 13-14, a certain darkness crept over me and everybody around me saw negative changes in me that even I couldn't understand at first. My parents figured it was just teen angst, something that will go away on it's own. At age 19 to 20-21, I was cutting myself and couldn't run away from the monster that whispers horrible things to me, telling me that I was unloved and that I should kill myself. At 22, I almost went with a plan to kill myself by hanging, and I got sent to a psych ward. Like always, nothing had helped.

    This year, I almost lost the love of my life because of my constant mood swings, negative thoughts, suicidal tendencies, degrading myself through words and action, overreacting to everything in the worst ways, aggressive and abusive behavior, and generally being a complete nightmare to be with. I looked around for ways to cope, and I don't know how, but I came across Dialectical Behavior Therapy and it's supposed miraculous results. I thought I had borderline personality disorder, so I found this book and purchased it while seeing a therapist. She diagnosed me with clinical depression with post traumatic stress disorder. She highly believes that I can still use the workbook for DBT even if I wasn't borderline. So, I went straight to work.

    My God. I don't know how to describe the book, but it was like finding a true blue best friend who wants to tend to your wounds and heal you from the inside out. This book encompasses all four modules of the DBT, which includes:

    1. Distress Tolerance
    2. Mindfulness
    3. Emotional Regulation
    4. Interpersonal Effectiveness

    Each one has two chapters, one "basic" and one "advanced", except for mindfulness, which has an extra third chapter to explore this skill further. Distress tolerance has showed me how to self-soothe myself through developing healthy hobbies, pleasurable activities, 'pushing away' a negative thought or emotion until you calm down, and pleasing yourself through your five senses, such as sucking on a candy when upset. Mindfulness has showed me how to meditate and how to practice noticing the physical reality around me to cope with distressing emotions and thoughts, being in the moment in everyday activities, to be non-judging of both the physical reality and the mental/emotional disturbances and to let the negative things go. Emotional regulation has taught me to identify and label emotions (without judging myself), reduce vulnerability from the 'emotional mind', to practice using my gut instincts (wise-mind), to observe and peacefully let go of negative thoughts and emotions, and to ride out the waves of intense emotion without having to physically react and do something dangerous to myself or others. Finally, interpersonal effectiveness has taught me how to ask for things respectfully and assertively from others without feeling guilty to avoid being aggressive, passive, or passive-aggressive, that it's okay to expect certain things from people (provided it is healthy for the two of you), to say no without losing relationships, and to avoid confrontations from blowing up and leaving behind damaged relationships.

    It took me a couple of months to complete this workbook but it has changed me for the better. My partner has seen the positive changes in me and couldn't be more happier. Here's a quick lesson that really has helped me with my negative emotions- sometimes we overreact and blow up because we have not been taught how to express our emotions and instead, bottle it all up inside until we boil over. It is crucial to express how you feel, for example, when somebody unintentionally hurts you, tell them, "I feel upset when you said that." in a calm voice. You'll be amazed how apologetic people get when you are honest with your hurt feelings, provided you stay calm and use "I" messages. I am able to stop fighting with my partner and everyone in my life just by doing this. Even when I'm alone and feel upset, I say the emotion out loud: "I feel sad!" I know, it sounds silly, but this simple technique is amazing at managing difficult moments in life. You have a RIGHT to your emotions, even if they feel bad. I promise! :-)

    If you have depression, anxiety, bipolar, borderline personality disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and other array of mood-wrecking disorders, please please PLEASE save yourself and buy this book. Read it cover-to-cover, do all the exercises even if it feels annoying at first, and take all the time to complete each chapter. This is not a race to the finish line; this is your LIFE. I look at the world now with a healthier pair of glasses and I know I can withstand the challenges that will come my way, thanks to this amazing work. Matthew McKay, if you are reading this, know that you have saved a young woman from killing herself and ruining the lives of those who love her very much. You have done a wonderful service to those who feel that they are damaged forever, and you gave me the light at the end of my dark tunnel of mental illness. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

    Great book

    I've tried out three DBT self-help books, and this one is by far the best. It's well laid out, easy to understand and very user-friendly. It teaches you mindfulness techniques as well as skills for getting through a crisis, improving mood, and getting your needs met in relationships. I've found these particularly useful for coping with stress.

    One of the things I like about this book is it doesn't make any assumptions about the reader, or target a particular mental health problem. DBT was originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, but this book is equally suitable for people who want to learn DBT skills to tackle other issues.

    The other DBT books I've read were Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life by Scott Spradlin and Depressed and Anxious by Thomas Marra. The former is very much aimed at people with BPD, and I couldn't relate to a lot of it. It also goes into a lot of detail on some aspects of DBT, but is sketchy about others. Depressed & Anxious was a very difficult book to understand, and I gave up after one and a half chapters.

    So if you're interested in DBT, whatever your diagnosis, in my opinion The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook is the one to try. I also have been through MANY different supplements for anxiety, and I found one on Amazon that is really amazing:Xentivan - A 100% NATURAL, Patented Formula with Key Nutrients to Help Reduce Stress and Anxiety. Between this book and the Xentivan, my life has completely changed.

    Great Book But Worksheets Need To Be Optimized For Kindle

    Great book and extremely helpful. However, the worksheets are not properly formatted for Kindles or the Kindle app, so they appear too small and are unreadable. They should also be formatted so that they can be printed out from iPads or other mobile devices. Please have the publisher fix this.
